BBC

A good example of a 'PSB'. The BBC'S remit is to provide programme that inform, educate and entertain. A remit is the ethos of a programme. The BBC is there 'to reflect the UK, it's culture and values to the world.

BBC Funding

For example of a PSB's funding, 75% of the BBC's funding comes comes from the license fee. The remaining 25% comes from worldwide sales of it's programmes, and publications like the Radio Times.

Channel 4

Channel 4 was set up in 1977, because the government argued that the current television was not diverse enough. Channel 4 has a legal duty to inform, educate and entertain, and encourage diversity and originality. Channel 4 is both a commercial and PSB channel.

Channel 4 is funded through adverts and a small part of the license fee.

Commercial Television

- aims to provide popular shows that attract big audiences
- this therefore leads to higher prices when advertising slots are sold
