Analyse how representation is used in the episode to create meaning for a mainstream pre-watershed audience. Refer to the text you have studied in your answer. (5 marks)
Jake is represented as a white, homosexual police officer. We know this because when Jake said 'I'm gay' to Ryan, he gets no reaction. He challenges his stereotype of a gay person, because they are usually represented as weak and feminine. This is known as a counter type. This creates meaning for a mainstream British audience, because it shows us stereotypes can be false. This could be seen as inspiring for the audience,, because it reassures them that being a bit different doesn't mean that they cannot fulfil their dreams nor potential.
Jake Vickers challenges the gay stereotype by being very physical and perhaps not having a typical camp accent in his tone. He may be represented in this way to show the audience that not all gay people are the same.

When reflecting, please use a green text colour to highlight changes.
- How does Jake challenge the stereotype - think specifically? You've mentioned that homosexual characters are usually represented as weak and feminine, but how does Jake challenge that?
- Check over your SPaG - e.g, change there to their in the final sentence
