2010 TV Audiences and Uses and Gratifications

Personal Identity

Television series with ensemble casts, like Cuffs, do not give direct heroes or villains. However, themes such as teamwork, dedication and public order can influence the younger generation watching. Or, they may choose their favorite characters as their role models.

Social Interaction and Integration

Television series with ensemble casts, such as Cuffs, display either a team or a substitute family where there can be a 'mother role' (one who forgives other characters' mistakes and gives them support). This is good for people who see television as a substitute for social interaction. Fans of the show can then take what they've seen on screen, and have discussions about what they've just watched. Discussing more extreme scenes may limit the age you are to have these discussions.

Entertainment

Television series that represent a fictional world offer escapism to the audience. This could be either real or fantasy. Cuffs gives the audience a fictional world of a police force and their actions in and out-of their work. As well, the show offers comedy, suspense and action.
